Key staff features of the service
The support of a skilled staff team, 24-hour hours a day, specifically trained in positive behaviour management, autism, and challenging behaviour.
A manager with extensive knowledge and experience in complex services, that will work closely with the PBS lead to ensure that PBS plans are developed throughout all stages, from initial assessments, transitions, and the day-to-day delivery of care within the bungalow, that allow the care team to deliver the highest levels of person-centred care.
Regular input and reviews with the wider care team and in-house PBS lead to review the presentations and agree on actions to help the care team in the delivery of care for each individual.
We recognise the importance of a Total Communication Environment. We implement this under the guidance and direction of our PBS Team who support our Supported Living services to implement service specific Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) methods. We work alongside Speech and Language Therapists to embed the strategies advised for individual service users, as well as adopting a Total Communication approach for the service as a whole.
A Total Communication approach focuses on using a combination of communication methods for each person. We accept all forms of communication and offer training to our staff to help them adapt their own communication methods in order for them to meet the needs of the people they are supporting. Godfrey Care works towards the principles of the 5 Good Communication Standards, set out by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT). Some of the methods we use are:
- Key Word Signing (Signalong)
- PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System)
- Visual Schedules/Now and Next Boards
- PODD (Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display)
- Talking Mats
- Intensive Interaction
